Carly Reviews:

Trixie Mattel

One Stone

One Stone is Trixie Mattel’s sophomore album, which follows Two Birds. Good word play, Trixie: Two Birds, One Stone. One Stone isn’t the type of album we’d usually review here at Alt. Interviews, but since it falls under the category of ‘alternative folk’ we’ve decided to give it a listen. When the first song begins, you take a step back and think “Am I really going to take 23 minutes out of my day and listen to an album that is folk?” While you may ask yourself that, you won’t regret those 23 minutes. Trixie’s lyrics are unique, and even discuss LGBTQ+ relationships, growing up in a sheltered community, and the typical heartbreaks. The album is enjoyable, and great for easy listening. I can definitely see myself driving down a country-back road, windows down and sunroof open, listening to this very album. The music is well written, and you can hear the heart and emotion put into Trixie’s vocals. If I’m being completely honest, I was skeptical of this album too. Alternative folk? It’s admittedly questionable, but my expectations were more than exceeded. You may assume One Stone isn’t for you, but if you give it a chance, we’re sure you won’t regret it.
