Monowhales
Monowhales, a pop/rock “quirk” band from Toronto, delivers a fresh sound to its audience, and provides a unique listening experience. The four-piece was formerly known as Ginger Ale & The Monowhales, but since the release of their most recent single Take It Back they have rebranded. In the early years of their musical endeavors, they produced a more intense rock sound. All the way through they have maintained a steady alternative vibe, but whether they were on the rock end or the pop end has shifted through their years. Now, the band is producing music that fits better under the genre of alternative pop. They have experienced many changes in sound. Beginning with their 2014 EP Ha! - The EP has a very alternative rock feeling. Then, with singles White Walls and Blue Balls, they begin to sound intensely rock. It barely falls into the ‘Alternative Rock’ category because they are simply rock songs. On the other hand, the four other songs on the EP Bang are more reminiscent of alt-pop. Before reading Monowhales’ Instagram bio, I really could think of a solid way to classify or describe them. In contrast, the band certainly has an accurate description of their music sorted out. “Quirky” is a word they’ve often used to describe themselves - And I must agree. No matter what music they’ve thrown out, it’s been high-quality and well performed. Anyone who enjoys alternative music, rock music, or even pop music could get down to this Toronto four-piece.
If you’re a fan of artists like The Regrettes, Paramore, Misterwives, or AWOLNATION you’ll like Monowhales!
