We all love a good throwback. And we all LOVE a good emo jam. Here’s a list of some of my favorite emo jams of the 2000s, in no particular order of course.
‘Teenagers’ by My Chemical Romance - Every emo kid loves a song about being scared of the upcoming youth. ‘Teenagers’ is a true, rebel anthem for angsty adolescent, or adult for that matter. We totally vibe with the doom and gloom of the song.
‘Build God, then We’ll Talk’ by Panic! At the Disco - This song is off of Panic! At the Disco’s ‘A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out’ album, and it is a true work of art. The lyrics tell an intriguing story and the music is different, even for the alternative scene.
‘I Don’t Care’ by Fall Out Boy - This song is a complete banger. It’s all about not caring what anyone thinks or says, as long as they’re talking. It’s angsty and rebellious and we love it.
‘Let’s Dance to Joy Division’ by The Wombats - This is one I just can’t help but turn the volume up on.
‘Oh, Ms. Believer’ by Twenty One Pilots - This song is emotional and heartfelt, and truly brings a tear to my eye, to this day.
‘The Kill’ - Thirty Seconds to Mars - This one. THIS ONE. Not only is this song intense and completely killer, the video is also astounding. It’s inspired by The Shining and it’s beyond awesome. If you haven’t taken the time to listen to this song and watch the music video, I highly recommend you do.
‘I Write Sins Not Tragedies’ By Panic! At the Disco - This was Panic’s first hit. And damn, did the emo scene go nuts over it.
‘Sugar, We’re Going Down’ - Fall Out Boy - They made the list twice. Are we surprised? Fall Out Boy dominated the emo scene in the 2000s.
‘Fluorescent Adolescent’ By Arctic Monkeys - This song is so good. Even though Arctic Monkeys wasn’t necessarily an emo band at the time of this song’s release, they are one of the ‘new wave’ emo bands.
‘Welcome to the Black Parade’ By My Chemical Romance - This one is last, but certainly not least. This is arguably the most legendary emo jam of all time. Even if you’re not an MCR fan, you know and love this song.
